Perilla frutescens is a plant widely distributed and consumed in Asia where the leaves and the seeds are traditionally used for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Phytochemical investigations identified rosmarinic acid as its main active constituent responsible for anti-allergic and skin brightening actions. Other active compounds are found in P. frutescens including caffeic acid, perillic acid, and limonene. BDS-Perilla is the extract from the sprouts cultivated in a special facility, Bio-Dynamic Sprout (BDS) system.
