Lonicera japonica, also called Japanese honeysuckle, is a species of honeysuckle native to East Asia. The flowers and leaves are edible and consumed as a tea or a liquor. The flowers and dried leaves have been used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of various ailments including fever, cough, sore throat, and thirst. The phytochemical actions of the stems and flower buds are far reaching and have been indicated as anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and febrifuge agents. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated that L. japonica has a variety of biological activities due to many active compounds such as polyphenols and saponins. Through in vitro test by GNS, anti-oxidant and anti-wrinkle activities were confirmed.
