Green tea is made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis which have undergone minimal oxidation during processing. There are many scientific studies conducted into the myriad of health benefits green tea is understood to possess. Biochemically active groups in green tea include polyphenols, alkaloids, volatile oils, and vitamins. The polyphenols contain catechins and flavonoids, which are the primary active components, imparting anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-microbial actions. Epigallocatechin (EGCG) is receiving much attention for its anti-oxidant and potential sunscreen activity. GNS in vitro test data shows its anti-oxidant and skin brightening effect as well anti-microbial effect against oral pathogenic bacteria, Porphyromonas gingivalis.
