Lens esculenta, called lentil, is an edible legume plant that belongs to the family Fabaceae. Since Neolithic period of earlier, human has been eating lentils. Lentils providing ideal protein, dietary fibers, minerals, and vitamins are consumed as a basic food in many countries. Lentil is not only a food ingredient, but also a good cosmetic ingredient. Because of the rich mineral content, an extract from the lentils has been used in anti-aging skin care products. A study reported that L. esculenta can be a promising source of anti-oxidant agent phenolic compounds. Another skin benefits are to increase moisture in the skin while diminishing lines and wrinkles because of pantothenic acid. Some studies have reported that vitamin B5, called pantothenic acid, works as moisturizer on the skin and improves the healing process of skin wounds.
